Elijah
Prophet
Overview
Elijah was one of the greatest prophets in the Old Testament. His ministry took place during the reign of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel, recorded in 1 Kings 17 - 2 Kings 2.
He boldly confronted the idolatry that had spread throughout Israel, particularly the worship of Baal promoted by Jezebel. His confrontation with the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel is one of the most dramatic events in Scripture.
Elijah never died but was taken directly to heaven in a whirlwind with a chariot of fire, and is prophesied to return before the Day of the Lord.
